So the dining room door has dropped…. You have to kind of lift the handle to close it with a grinding snap, the whole frame shuddering, a 5.5 on the Richter scale. I tell myself it’s a five, ten minute job, no problem. But nearly an hour later I’m scratching my head with the door at a fourty five degree angle. I’m whispering profanities like I have tourettes and feel like doing a Jack Nicholson in The Shining but I don’t have an axe. “Here’s Vinny!” Does anybody actually enjoy DIY? I held the allen key like a tiny magic wand. Inspiration struck. You Tube! I clicked on the first video and a burly bloke looking like he’d just woke up told me what to do. I didn’t have a clue what he was jabbering about or the next two for that matter. It’s starting to get dark and I’m stood outside, completely baffled thinking I’ll have to guard the door all night until daylight. But then, the braincell makes an appearance and suddenly it came to me! Hey presto! Five minutes later the door fits, and closes without a bang and the wall juddering. Going to bed now feeling a bit nervous because my usual do it yourself ends up with somebody else doing it so in the morning I’m expecting the bloody thing to be on the floor….

Doors are a pain in the arse to work with! I find that the correct screw and its length can grab the stud or studs in the wall to draw the door back into alignment.

I hate doors. I wish we had a better alternative to them.

I can relate … I love DIY when everything comes out just perfect, but the other 95% of the time I curse a blue streak and usually end up calling a repair person! So … did the door remain in place through the night?

My one attempt at fitting a new internal door saw me measure , cut, and finish everything perfectly. I went to hang it only to discover I’d done it all upside down! I said “Oh dearie me!”
