About a year before the pandemic a council estate next to where I live was being flattened to make way for ‘Affordable Housing’. All those empty homes attracted vandals who decided they would help with the demolishing. Lighting fires, causing havoc and general mayhem….
Then some bright spark had a good idea… Let professional graffiti artists go to work on the houses…
The results were fantastic…
Guess what? The vandalism stopped…
It was very strange, walking around those quiet empty streets….
A great outdoor art exhibition, certainly one of the biggest…
It’s all gone now, ready for the new build…
But for a while there, it was a thing of beauty…

Wow. I admit I was sorry to hear they’re all gone now…. that was a fabulous display of creativity.

The photos really don’t do it justice.

Amazing. I’m normally dead against graffiti, but these paintings were brilliant. I hope that the images were somehow captured before the houses got demolished.

I think Bankside Gallery Hull were behind it and presumably they have a website. It really was fantastic.

I was really impressed. Better than some of Banksy’s stuff…

Yeah it was really good. I walked around it on my own and it was very quiet. Great to see.

I absolutely LOVE the graffiti! So sorry it’s gone now, but at least you have the pictures. Are you familiar with Banksy? I’ve done a couple of posts about him and his graffiti art … amazing artist!

It was brilliant…and weird at the same time! Yes Hull has a Banksy. It’s called ‘Draw the raised bridge’ and it was actually on the side of disused bridge. He work is amazing.

We have lots now in Hull. We became the City of Culture in 2017 and it changed the city.
